HILARY MACMILLAN is a cruelty-free womenswear brand based in Toronto, Canada. The eponymous brand was founded in 2013 and is renowned for offering versatile contemporary pieces in timeless silhouettes. The brand focuses on using high-quality, cruelty-free fabrics to design ready-to-wear pieces in bold colours and textures with the modern-day consumer in mind. Select styles are now available in size US 2- 28 or UK 6-32 and XS - 4X. 

"It was always our goal to expand our sizing range,” says Designer, Hilary MacMillan, “As an independent fashion brand, the timing had to be right and the consumer demand had to be there for it to be successful. With the popularity of our feminist jackets globally - which go up to a size 4X - combined with the many requests we received over the years to extend our sizes for our seasonal collections, we decided the time was now. Personally, I am vegan and not a size 2. I want my brand and the clothes I design to reflect aspects of my values and who I am, in addition to making my customers happy. It’s part of what I value and I how I relate to those who wear my clothes. I want to feel pride giving people options for confidence and comfort.

At Hilary MacMillan every collection is designed, developed and sampled in-house at our Toronto based studio. Each season our Canadian design team ensures our products meet brand standards, allowing us to seek seasonal manufacturing. Currently, we split manufacturing between Canada and China. Every product sold and produced is labelled, and all those Made in Canada are marked as such. All our off-shore Chinese production takes place in two factories which we have worked hard to build strong relationships with. We only produce with manufacturers aligned with our standards, and with those which are transparent about their processes. The factories we work with in China must qualify for the SA8000 Standard certification, be Bureau Veritas certified, be audited yearly, and be available for site visits. Black Women In Motion is an incredible organization which through their Employment & Training initiative supports the BYEAP youth program. This program seeks to address unemployment and underemployment for Black/Afro-diasporic/Afro-Caribbean youth. The issue of employment sustainability is one of the factors related to inequity of pay, a matter which greatly fractures communities and remains a social injustice long embedded in our economy. Working to address this affects the lives of women, men and most importantly our youth; our future. We recognize that this is not enough, and look forward to committing our words and actions to this initiative, hopeful these are steps will lead to opportunity and positive change.  Up With Women is a growing registered charity dedicated to helping recently homeless and at-risk women build sustainable, prosperous careers and businesses with the aim of permanently exiting poverty. Up With Women clients undergo a year-long intensive program of career and entrepreneurship-based one-on-one customized coaching, in-depth personality and emotional assessment tools, group-support sessions, and soft-skills development. Up With Women tackles an urgent issue in Canada, which as studies suggest, is getting worse. An estimated 200,000 Canadians experience homelessness in any given year. (Canadian Homelessness Research Network, 2013). The same study found that one and half million households are at risk of becoming homeless. What’s more, families are disproportionally affected. The latest research found that shelter use among children and youth in Canada is up by 50 percent (Raising the Roof, 2016). Incidences of violence are overrepresented among women and youth who have experienced homelessness. One of the largest studies to date (Browne & Bassuk, 1997) found that 92% of a diverse sample of homeless mothers had experienced severe physical abuse and/or violence. The cycle of homelessness and poverty can be extraordinarily difficult to escape. Up With Women gives the skills and opportunities to break the cycle. A portion of sales of Pride Masks for the month of June 2021 will be donated to The 519 Community Centre. Their work, resources, support and space for the LGBTQIAP2S communities is incredible and our neighbourhood would be lost without them. With Pride events being virtual this year, it's a huge part of their funding that has disappeared, if you wish to donate you can learn more here

  • You have 10 days from when the shipment arrives to you to contact us to claim a return, or exchange.
  • All returns must be sent in the mail within 5 days of submitting a return request.
  • Please Note -  International shipments do not include duties & taxes and you may be subject to additional fees in the receiving country. Duties and taxes are determined by the receiving country and are out of our control. The order price along with any shipping fees paid, do not include these duties and taxes. 
  • Any items purchased on promotions or sale are final sale.
  • All sale items, bodysuits, masks, gift cards and custom embroidered items are FINAL SALE and can not be returned.

Holiday Return Policy:
Any regular priced merchandise between November 12th and December 24th 2021 can be exchanged or returned for a store credit until January 4th 2022. Any promotions or items on sale will be not be accepted for exchange or return.


When shipping from a country outside of Canada, please clearly mark the item as returned goods and the value as 0$, otherwise you could be charged for return duties and taxes.

We are now offering FREE STANDARD SHIPPING on North American orders over $100. We ship via Canada Post and it can typically take between 2-10 business days depending on your location. You also have the option to select express shipping where we ship via Canada Post Tracked Package or DHL/Purolator courier.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, delivery carriers globally are experiencing unprecedented delays and reduced service due to the continued spread of COVID-19. Canada Post has removed all 'On-Time Delivery Guarantees' which means that items can take up to 8 weeks to be delivered. As such, we cannot control the delays caused by carrier backlogs or destination customs clearance slow downs. Your business is important to us and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding should there be extended delays in receiving your parcel(s).

Orders under C$100 have the following standard shipping rates:

$9.95 within the United States

$29.95 Internationally or under C$250 for Australia

Orders over C$100 within North America qualify for Free-Shipping, and orders over C$250 for Australia.
Shipping costs for Europe are C$19.99, all shipped Express

Express Shipping is $12.95 within North America

At checkout you may select 'Curbsibe Pick Up' as a way to receive your item.

Once your order is placed  - we will send you an email confirming that your pickup is ready.

Curbside pickup is Thursdays between 2pm and 5pm at 224 Carlton St. Toronto, ON M5A2L1. Ring the bell upon your arrival and please have your order # and name ready when picking up.

For the month of December 2021 Curbside pick up is available Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

If you cannot make that time please call the studio and we will be happy to help you with an alternate time.

Social distancing measures and sanitation methods are in place to ensure your safety.

At Hilary MacMillan our efforts are always to preserve the safety & security of our valued customers and staff. Our e-commerce is open for business as usual and we have temporarily paused our in studio appointments. We will be shipping and fulfilling all orders placed from our studio here in Toronto. All items will continue to be fulfilled in a sanitary work environment, as we are committed to protecting the safety of our customers and staff. We have a small staff that can safely socially distance and we have one dedicated staff member fulfilling all e-commerce orders. Hilary, Julie & Lauren have been hard at work making non-medical grade masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic we have donated over 800 masks to hospitals, The Humane Society, housing shelters and other essential service workers. We are continuing to donate 200 masks per week to those on the frontline. If you or someone you know is in need of a mask, visit our FACE MASK section. We wholesale to other stores, and have an e-commerce website. We host bi-annual studio sales, and participate in pop-ups. We suggest you subscribe to our newsletter to be kept in the loop about our shopping events. 

In studio shopping is re-open by private appointment only as of Friday, June 11th!

Our stylists are available Monday-Friday 9am-5pm to show you our collections and help you get the right fit. Proper COVID-19 safety protocols are in place and masks will be worn at all times.

We accept all forms of payment & are offering curbside pick up for anyone that doesn't feel comfortable coming in to shop.
